Description
The design for Winnie was inspired by tapa cloth from the south pacific. Often abstract in pattern, a traditional tapa cloth pattern is drawn onto bark from a mulberry tree, beaten, and then dried. For Winnie we have created a mock patch pattern using a mix of print, embroidery, and cording. The print is created with an opaque paste which serves to block light through the sheer base cloth, creating a beautifully graphic pattern.
Next the embroidery and cording are hand-guided in order to precisely coordinate with the print. The result is a truly unique and three dimensional textile, steeped in tradition.
Perfect for drapery and especially roman blinds, Winnie filters the light beautifully, creating a dramatic patterned effect.
